I Got This From You

I come from a very small family.

My mother had one brother, David and my father had one sister, Jill.

Uncle David lived on the other side of the country so we only saw him

sporadically over the years.

It was always so nice when he did visit, full of stories and life,

but it was too few and far between to get really close to him.

Sadly, he passed away a couple years ago and he is very much missed.

My Aunt Jill, on the other hand, always lived in close proximity to us growing up.

My sister Karin and I spent many hours at her house when we were young.

We were very close to her and her family.

About 4 years ago, my Aunt Jill was diagnosed with brain cancer.

She outlived her diagnosis by many years but sadly passed away a couple of days ago.

Her funeral is today.

I was asked to look for photos of her, but she was one of those people

who hated having their picture taken.

I can still see and hear her..."Don't you dare take my picture!"

And in the end, I found maybe 8 pictures of her.

Most of them with her hiding behind a baby.

And in the almost 50 years that I have been alive,

I have not one photo of us together.

And that makes me so sad.

So next time someone wants to take your photo,

just smile because someone you love wants to remember you when you're gone.

I LOVE the pictures and the caindd shots of this outstanding wedding and reception. Your comments Diane were very heartfelt and didn't surprise me because I kept seeing your reaction at the reception and knew you were really touched by the uniquely special reception. It was obvious to all of us there how happy the couple were and how special they were to their friends-who as you commented-came from far far away to be a part of this very special couple's ceremony. It was such a personal event. Being raised here in America I have never been to a reception as personal as Sonja and Martin's. I was honored to be able to be a part. Thank you Diane for catching on film so much of the heart of this special day. Sincerely, Kathy Schmidy
